Education
2020 - 2023: MSc Architecture at TU Delft
In the first semester in the studio Borders & Territories I developed a unique duo of office buildings for the fictional Ministry of Propaganda of Monaco and investigative journalism collective Bellingcat. The design of the project was awarded with a 9,0/10 and the engineering of the project with an 8,0/10.
During the second semester, I delved into a variety of subjects. My research into Victor Horta’s BOZAR in Brussels, focusing on monumentality, patterns, and irregularities, received a 8.3/10. Additionally, my study of the architectural ethnography of the Bagijnhof in Delft earned a 9.7/10. I also participated in a Theory Department design studio, where we explored Deleuzian ontology and created a project inspired by these theories, which was awarded a 9.0/10.
In the third semester I participated in an extracurricular studio by the Urban Architecture chair of the TU Delft. The studio addresses questions concerning the preservation of existing structures and proposes meaningful interventions in the existing fabric of our cities. We asked ourselves whether it makes sense to demolish (and what exactly) and how to re-use what we find. This project considers the renovation of the Petrus Canisius primary school situated in the city centre of Nijmegen with the pergola as a central organizing principle. Awarded 7,5/10.
Recently I graduated at the studio: Borders & Territories: Transient liquidities along the new silk road II. My project involves the transformation of the former international airport of Istanbul. The project aims to establish an approach to the transformation of existing infrastructure. The vast area that has become available with the closure of Atatürk Havalimanı has turned into a void in the metropolis. Although it is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the city and its infrastructure, the area is completely closed off and inaccessible to the public. This raises the question: How can architecture transform enclosed urban areas and engender their transformation into public space?
Especially in Istanbul, where the number of enclosed areas has steadily increased, it is relevant to research how architecture can address enclosure. Specifically, the areas abandoned due to the departure and closure of an airport need to be considered because they are deeply integrated into the fabric of the city and its infrastructure. The transformation of the former Atatürk Havalimanı will explore the relationships between the city, the void, and its exclusionary perimeter.
